For over 30 years, the North Central Health Foundation has provided important funding to North Central Health Care programs and services that has impacted the lives of many families and individuals throughout central Wisconsin – from newborn babies and adults with developmental disabilities, to those coping with mental illness, to the elderly living with dementia. The Foundation has purchased and supported a group home for people with mental illness, funded rehabilitation equipment to assist people in recovery and supported alcohol and drug awareness events in our communities. Because of the generosity of our community, the North Central Health Foundation has been able to create Voyages for Growth, a unique program providing travel experiences to individuals with developmental disabilities.
In the Foundation’s continued efforts to support the good work and efforts North Central Health Care, we are pleased to announce a wonderful community event taking place May 15, 2015. Just Like Us will be held at the Jefferson Street Inn in Wausau and host well-known, award winning actress,comedian and motivational speaker Geri Jewel. From her role in NBC’s The Facts of Life, Geri Jewel was the first person with a disability to have a regular role on a prime-time series, as well as the first actor with cerebral palsy to be featured on a TV series. As a role model for millions of people with disabilities, the Foundation is proud to bring an entertainer to central Wisconsin that delivers empowering messages of spirit and hope from a very unique perspective.
Held in the heart of downtown Wausau at the beautiful Jefferson Street Inn, guests will enjoy an evening filled with tantalizing hor 'd oeuvres, luxurious dinner selections and scrumptious desserts – not to mention a lot of fun including fabulous raffles and silent auctions to benefit the North Central Health Foundation. Guests will have an opportunity to interact with Geri and also receive a copy of her book, "I'm Walking As Straight As I Can – Transcending Disability in Hollywood and Beyond".
