Warm Water Works!
Aquatic Services at NCHC
Welcome to North Central Health Care Aquatic Services!
Warm water is one of the oldest forms of medicine. As a matter of fact, research indicates it works wonders for all kinds of musculoskeletal conditions, including fibromyalgia, arthritis and low back pain, which is why many doctors and physical therapists recommend warm water therapy to their patients.
NCHC is pleased to be able to provide a number of aquatic services at its warm water pool located right on its campus in Wausau. The facilities provide access to both doctor-referred aquatic physical therapy programs with licensed physical therapists, as well as community swim. The NCHC pool is one of the few in the state specifically designed for aquatic therapy, with handicap accessibility in both the locker rooms and the pool via a wheelchair ramp.
Services include:
- Aquatic Physical Therapy
- Water Exercise Programs
- Aquatics for Arthritis
- Walter Walking
- Community & Family Swim
Doctor referral is required for all aquatic programs, but patients do not need to know how to swim to take advantage of warm water therapy. The pool depth ranges from three feet to five-and a-half feet, and the water is generally maintained at a comfortable 90 degrees.
Once patients leave the therapy program, they can continue using the pool by enrolling in one of the water exercise programs or independently during posted community and family swim hours. Therapists also provide patients with self-directed exercise programs for pool and home (land) use.
Warm water can help patients with range of motion, balance, strength, coordination, and even pain. The NCHC warm water pool can be fun and good for you at the same time. Discuss this special type of therapy with your doctor today!
