Resident Possessions/Services

We encourage you to bring personal items from home that has special meaning to you and that will help make your room more familiar and home-like. Ideas to consider are pictures, photographs, afghans, television, or radio. An oak shelf is available for your special possessions and we will be glad to help you locate your television safely.

Unclaimed personal possessions of former residents are kept for a maximum of one month. After this one-month period, possessions will be donated to charitable organizations.

Furniture

It is often possible for you to have a favorite piece of furniture in your room; however, safety and space constraints must be considered. Your social worker and housekeeping manager will work together in making arrangements for that favorite piece.

Because of limited space, we request that you bring televisions that are no wider or deeper than our television stands (16" x 24").

The housekeeping staff will check personal furniture to insure it meets cleanliness and safety standards. At the same time, they will explain our cleaning procedures and the limitations of the facility. Maintaining the cleanliness of your soft furniture and the repair of your radios, stereos, and televisions remains your responsibility.

Health/safety codes require the prompt removal of soiled items from your room. If furniture or personal items become soiled, they will be removed to a storage area until you or your family makes arrangements for proper cleaning. For these reasons, we discourage fabric-covered furniture and strongly recommend impervious, easily cleaned surfaces.

Small electrical appliances such as coffeepots, toasters, and refrigerators are not permitted to be used in your room. Each unit has toasters available and there are also refrigerators for limited storage of personal foods.

Resident Storage

Limited storage in a separate designated area is available for out-of-season clothing. All items being placed in storage must be in a box and you are limited to a maximum of three large boxes. Storage of furniture and excess items is your responsibility. Resident storage is secured, but we do ask that you do not keep valuables at the facility because absolute security cannot be assured.

You can access the storage area by contacting the housekeeping supervisor at 848-4349 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by appointment.

Laundry and Clothing

Mount View Care Center offers an onsite laundry service at no additional charge; however, this service does not include dry cleaning. We request that you bring items that are colorfast and washable, permanent press and preshrunk. Materials not appropriate for commercial laundering include wool, polypropylene, or art and craft items, i.e., liquid paint or iron-on crayon. We do not have provisions for hand washing delicate items.

We ask your help in preventing losses by assuring that all personal clothing is properly labeled before it is placed in drawers or worn.

The laundry will be happy to supply you with pre-made labels, which you can securely apply at home. Gifts can be labeled by you or by us prior to gift-wrapping.

If you do bring in clean, unlabeled personal clothing, please take the items to the nursing desk where staff will temporarily mark the article and send it to the laundry for permanent labeling. We cannot be responsible for unlabeled items.
