How are the exercise classes conducted? Must I be able to swim? In each of our exercise classes, it is assumed that you are the best judge of your own limits. You participate at your own pace; there is no pressure to "keep up" with a cadence or to perform any exercise or movement that you feel is too difficult or painful. Once you have a physician's referral, you are welcome to try out any of the classes prior to joining, to see which might suit you. Ability to swim is not required, and you do not need to submerge your head in the water, although you may experience an occasional splash. In the Water Walking and Fibrocise programs, you are expected to be able to walk back and forth across the pool without assistance. How difficult are the classes? The Arthritis Exercise program consists of gentle range of motion exercises for the joints of the body - neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, hips, knees, ankles and toes, with some walking and "noodle" exercises. The Water Walking and Fibrocise programs are the most strenuous of our
exercise classes. Each class offers aerobic, strengthening and stretching
components, with emphasis on movement during the entire class period. Aquatics for Arthritis Hours: Monday and Thursday 6:00-7:00 p.m. Fees: Two to four sessions per week program. Cost: $25 to $40 *Physician Referral is required for all Aquatic Programs.
