For Immediate Release September 12, 2019
Full-time Recovery Coach position begins at North Central Health Care in September 2019
Recovery Corps aims to reduce prescription drug, opioid and other substance use disorders through one-on-one contact, outreach, phone calls and community education
(Wausau, WI) North Central Health Care (NCHC) and Marshfield Clinic Health System have partnered, through an AmeriCorps grant, to launch a Recovery Corps Recovery Coaching initiative to begin in September in central Wisconsin.
As a host site, North Central Health Care will host four Recovery Coaches who will undergo training in the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) model of recovery coaching. Their work will serve to reduce prescription drug, opioid and other substance use disorders through one-on-one contact, outreach phone calls and community education.
“Recovery coaching is a peer-based service that provides support for those in recovery from alcohol and other addictions. It is also evidence-based and shown to enhance engagement, access and treatment completion which can increase long-term recovery. We are pleased to partner with Marshfield Clinic Health System and AmeriCorps on the Recovery Corps project to bring additional methods of recovery and treatment to complement the services offered by North Central Health Care.” – Laura Scudiere, Human Services Operations Executive at North Central Health Care.
Recovery coaches are AmeriCorps members and serve individuals seeking recovery from a substance use disorder as well as their friends, families and communities. They work to promote recovery services, support the recovery community and reduce stigma. They may work together with local prevention groups in schools, tribes and through educational events. Services may be provided directly to individuals, in a group setting or both and may take place in a professional or private setting. Full-time positions offer benefits, child care to qualified applicants and an education award after one year of service.
North Central Health Care provides compassionate and specialized care for over 12,500 people each year with complex behavioral and skilled nursing needs in Marathon, Langlade and Lincoln counties. Services are provided for mental health, substance abuse, crisis, developmental disabilities, adult protection, aquatic physical therapy and skilled nursing care.
